"Winter Solitude", a landscape painting by Vermont artist Georgia (Wells Stearns) Balch (Canadian/American, 1888-1981), oil on canvas, circa 1950. Georgia Balch moved from Quebec to Johnson, VT when just a teenager. After the death of her husband, she moved to Kansas City where she studied art, but then returned to Vermont and sold paintings from her home. She exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. The painting is in excellent condition and retains part of an old label attached to the stretcher that bears the title of the work. Signed lower right. Size: 22" x 26" and offered in an Arts & Crafts style frame.
