Lacquered and gilt wood, the doors of the altar with brass hinges and decoration. Japan, 19th century. Height: 7 1/2" (19 cm). Some flaking on the front and back bottom of the altar, otherwise good condition.

Small altar ("zushi" in Japanese) made of wood, lacquered in black outside, gilt inside. The locking system as well as the hinges are made of beautifully decorated bronze. The altar contains a gilt wood statue of Buddha sitting cross-legged in meditation posture on an elevated throne backed by an aureola. Japan, 19th century. Total height: 8" (20,5 cm). Flaked lacquer at the base, otherwise very good condition.

Statue of Buddha Sakyamuni, in monk's robes, his hands in "bhumisparsa mudra" (posture showing Buddha taking the Earth as a witness of the veracity of his sayings), sitting cross-legged on a high lotus throne. Inscriptions at the back of the throne. Embossed silver encasing a resin core. Burma, 19th century. Height: 7" (18 cm). Slight dent at the lower part of the face, top of head partly missing, otherwise very good condition. A very fine piece. Ex. old French collection.

Bronze, with large remnants of the original gilding and dark, reddish-green encrusted patina. China, Yuan or early Ming Dynasty, 14th century. Height: 7 3/8" (18,8 cm). Good condition.
