This is a really nice early rag doll with an embroidered face. I am partial to the U shaped nose that some early cloth dolls have and this is a nice example. She has black tufted wool eyes and black embroidered eyebrows. Her mouth is a mauve floss with a true to shape lips. Her hair is black velvet and shows nice wear. Her arms are attached but her legs are continuous. Her body is the hour glass shape of the 1800's and is stuffed very firmly with cotton. Her legs bend a little but she is not a great sitter. She has stitched defined fingers and no thumb on the right hand and the left hand has lost stuffing and part of the hand and lower arm. Her clothes are not original but age appropriate. The dress and apron are great brown calicos. The dress shows wear on both arms and a little wear on the bodice. The dress doesn't quite go around her waist. Under the dress she has a nice white petticoat. She has the remains of brown socks that were sewn on. She is a very nice example of an 1880's cloth doll.
