This precious sepia ink drawn face doll is nicely drawn by a unschooled hand. The artist had trouble with her ink and pen and the results can be seen on her right eyebrow as well as her ear (with earring) and a big blob when drawing the hair. It makes me smile but I don't think the mother was smiling when she was drawing!
The doll is jointed and packed fairly firmly with cotton. She has on a blouse, wool petticoat, striped skirt, wonderful early cape and brown calico bonnet. She has on early brown leather shoe button shoes. She is very nice and I think she knows it. 18" and circa 1880.
