This pair of black dolls I owned 20 years ago and by round robin I have them back. They are historically significant and I am sure were meant to tell a story. Both man and woman have chains around their necks. They don't pull off and I do think they are original. The woman is wearing a bracelet on her right wrist. They are dressed in work clothes and are original. They are made with a very fine black stockinette. Their faces are very detailed with raised noses and raised lips. Both had red yarn for lips but moths got at the red wool and so only some of the yarn remains. There is no indication that they ever had hair. The do sit but it is a little forced sit. They are 17 and 18" tall and are circa 1890-1900. They are very dear and they are thought provoking.
