This the second one I have ever owned, a black doll with a coconut for her head. (There are three pictured in the book, (Black Dolls, From the collection of Deborah Neff.) This dear worried doll is 23" tall. Her body is black cotton and softly stuffed. Her head rests on her chest and I think it always has. Her clothes I think are original, a nice blue and white linen fabric blouse and skirt. Underneath she has on a cotton petticoat and a pretty tan scarf around her neck and a couple of head scarves that are in various stages of fragility.
She is a very nice example of a rare kind of black doll. C. 1890-1910
