The painting oil on masonite board measures 8" by 10" and 11 1/2" by 13" with the frame. The artist signed at lower left "Blanche Whelan". Original label on the reverse with the artist address and painting tittle " Boats". The condition is good. Eva Blanche Whelan (1889 - 1974) was active/lived in California. This is a circa 1915 watercolor of a cabin or small house on the shore of a partially frozen lake in winter. It measures 13 1/2" by 8 3/4 " and 19 1/2 " by 14 1/2 " in the vintage frame. A recent addition to my growing collection of cat related art, which I find to be a popular seller, is this vintage etching with aquatint of a tabby cat. Someone has added a little yellow-green coloring to the iris of the eyes. The pencil signature is "Danet". There might be a listed artist corresponding to this name but I cannot be certain of that. This is a watercolor of the world-famous Pantheon classical temple perched on its hill high above Athens for 2,000 years. Signed. The temple is viewed through a small ruined yet still-standing arch of three columns topped by Doric capitals. Most likely this is a piece created for Athens "busy tourist trade", circa mid 20th century. It is in excellent condition. Saul Rabino (born Rabinovitz in Odessa, Russia) was a noted artist who specialized in scenes of traditional Jewish life. Condition of the etching is very good, the frame showing some wear. James Sanford Hulme was a painter, print maker and illustrator who lived for many years in White Plains, New York and completed many serigraphs of his surroundings in Westchester County. Gouache on paper, 5 3/4" by 12 1/4", (13" by 21" as framed), signed at lower left by a listed Italian artist Yves Gianni. Other works of such southern Italian scenes are signed M. Gianni. The auction houses I think have generally mixed up these late 19th/first half of the 20th century painters and the auction records are hopelessly tangled and inaccurate.
