A pair of antique pastel drawings of a man and a woman, dating to the late 18th century or 1800, one is signed lower left with conjoined initials "FR". On the reverse of the female portrait is an affixed paper filled from edge to edge with writing in old German script, mostly illegible. Significantly however one can make out " Marz 1802" (see photo). Both are framed in the same elegant and ornate carved dark wood, which adds greatly to the overall appeal. Although the frames are identical in style, the sizes vary: the female portrait is 18" by 12" (29 1/2" by 21 1/2" framed), the male portrait 15" by 12" ( 26" by 18" framed). Condition considering the age is very good. EN
