An original gouache on paper of a deer signed at the lower centre by the noted artist WOODROW WILSON BIG BOW (1914-1988) and dated there '54. The measurements are 19 1/2" by 14 1/2" inside the mat and 24" by 19" with the frame. This is an earlier work by the artist, who was born in Carnegie, Oklahoma, the grandson of Chief Big Bow. The artist studied at the University of Oklahoma in 1939. In the course of a career in fine art, he was a set painter for western movies and painted murals, which adorn the RCA Building in New York and the old Southwest Museum building in Los Angeles. Big Bow designed the stylized yellow and red thunderbird design for the insignia of the famed Oklahoma 45th Infantry Division. Today his works reside in numerous institutional collections including the Gilcrease and Philbrook Museums in Oklahoma and other museums nationwide. Allow for reflections in some images. E
