This high standard compote is of extra generous size to show off its many virtues. The bowl is McKee and Brothers (1853-99) Shell pattern also known as Fans with Diamonds. It would date to c. 1880.

The ring of the lid and its weight indicate lead or flint. It is decorated with beautifully designed stippled fruits such as pears, cherries, apples, and berries with detailed leaves.

The compote is in very good condition, but the lid has a few small frits at the lip where ...

As crisp and vivid as it was when new 120 years ago, this porcelain pitcher shows off the splendors of Pickard China Co, an American based manufacturer of the best porcelain. While it often used Limoges blanks in its formative years, this one is unmarked and may produced domestically. In any event, Pickard employed the best artists and enamellers as this example atests.

The artist, Joesph Beitler, worked for Pickard until around 1907 after which he established his own studio is Chic...

This interesting vase has a notch in it making it look a little like Pac Man, but giving it a very distinct form. However, we believe that it was created in a studio by excellent ceramicists who decorated the vase with free flowing green and blue glazes. One side has a stack of incised chevrons running down the center. The underside is marked with what appears to be W NZ VI, marks whose identity elude us. The vase has considerable heft for its size.

While dating is a little fuzzy, I...

A lovely Steuben center bowl with reeded diamond optic decoration, low profile, but large diameter. I have not quite placed the color as it does not quite match green or Pomona Green, but I will go with the former pending further research.

Condition is excellent, but may contain a minute production flaw or two. Unmarked but unmistakably Steuben. Shape number is 6774.

Please note that the right vase does NOT tilt. It is my old mahogany leaf table with gate legs which is the culprit.

An absolutely delightful pair of Old Paris neo-classical Campana vases hand painted in the round with an effusion of floral bouquets including tulips, pansies, peonies, poppies, and more, on an ebullient pink ground. The bowls are supported by a round foot standing atop a square plinth. The handles are embellished with finely detailed porcelain gargoyle/mythical faces...

A man carrying a load of firing wood followed by his faithful dog, a solitary cow standing near its barn in the background, a man leaving the side door of his house carrying a bucket, and a man and woman leaving the home in a sleigh carriage driven by two horses down a country road – all orchestrate to create the nostalgic beauty which Currier and Ives created as the nation attempted to forget the pains of the Civil War.

Undoubtedly a New England vignette, it resonates with Americ...

This neo-classically inspired porcelain pitcher is magnificent in its grace and, dare I say, grandeur. It expands as it rises from its gilded circular foot then recedes to give rise to a towering helmet style beaker. The base of the handle is anchored in a shield from which it serpentinely shoots up and then down to attach to the rim. The gilding is sumptuous especially around the hand painted scene of a riparian idyll with 2 people in discourse. Although the gilding has suffered loss, the paint...

When Dr Wall discovered a formula for porcelain which would withstand boiling water, he had a huge hit on his hand. This lovely blue and white porcelain mimics the ever popular Chinese wares using similar decorations such as this fine fenced garden. Trees, birds, lush flora surround the garden. The interior bottom of the bowl contains a peony while its rim is ringed with a thick blue line.

This wonderful blue and white bowl is made with soft paste porcelain, and among the very earli...

This Victorian copper luster pitcher practically dances with joy for the colorful flowers strung around the blue band of its bulbous form. Beading borders the blue and rim of the pitcher. Equally exciting is the mythical figure on the beaker spout. Condition is excellent and still retains luminous shine even after 170 years of life.

This fine Staffordshire copper luster pitcher is decorated with a blue band of enamel, creating a very clean, simple design, accented with beading around the border and rim of the pitcher. The fancy serpentine and strap handles give it grace. The warmth of the copper makes it an attractive accessory to a bookshelf or cabinet.

With neo-classicism a dominating influence in decorative arts at the end of the 18th century, it is most natural that dinner service wares would follow suit with clean simple lines and decorations as we see in this Chinese export porcelain pitcher.

Its chief decorative elements are subtle molded shapes and contours in the helmet form and the spare blue and white enameling of its body. The foot and the rim of the pitcher are embellished along with a lone bouquet of basket flowers - a...

A very finely cut cameo of a lovely young woman who most likely represents one of the goddesses of Greek or Roman mythology. The carver shows off his skills with the many fine lines and drapings which complement the curled and wavy hair of the lady. The styling suggests transition away from Victorian into Art Nouveau and thus we believe that it was made c. 1900. Additional support comes from the absence of a gold mark on the frame which was not uncommon prior to the passing of the Gold Act requi...

We present a fine Chinese Export porcelain armorial platter with unknown insignia but it is wonderfully enameled with royal blue and gold around both the rim and the top of the cavetto. The center of the plate features the owner initials amidst and draped beribboned shield. The orange peel finish exudes warmth of a distant past. This 18th century gem is in excellent condition. 15" l

A large ceramic studio art vase by the renowned Clement Massier whose work with lustrous iridescent glazes still commands admiration today. This ceramic vase is decorated with mythological and fantasy creatures, inscribed on the surface, each of which alternates between stylized fleurs de lys. The glazes are deep red - perhaps burgundy - infused with coppery tones. The style anticipates the Art Deco era, and speaks to Clement's leadership in the decorative arts world. The underside is inscrib...

While we have yet to identify the artist or the subject, we would contend that the work is first rate considering the mood captured by the painter. The man exudes a somewhat austere aristocratic brood, yet exudes the strengths of youth and ambition, a man ready to make his place in the world. We believe the work to be of the British school painted c. 1850 or earlier as suggested by the early Victorian shape of the seat rail. The clothing hearkens more to the earlier half of the century, as do...

Internationally acclaimed artist Bruce Onobrakpeya (b. 1932 ) produced this expressionistic image of a black fishes during one of his earlier periods of artistic expression in 1963. The serigraph depicts gold fish swimming in a pond or lake expressing, perhaps, the beauties of African natural life. Onobrakpeya has a wide following, including Prince Phillip of the United Kingdom from whom Nigeria, Onobrakpeya's native country, gained independence in 1960. His works have been exhibited at many int...

At 18 1/2", this retired and hard to find wood Mickey Mouse is well above average in size, finished in blond, and standing on a round pedestal with hands held behind his back. Excellent condition, stamped Walt Disney Productions, Mickey Mouse, Made in USA. PS: Since my original research, I have discovered that this carving was most likely made by Kappy Co who had a contract with Disney in the late 1980s to produce 1000 of these figures, though I am not certain if it was per character or total...
