An antique Spode stone china covered bowl with transfer and hand painted designs in the Imari palette featuring floral motifs in the Chinese style. These wonderful early ceramic pieces are a treat to find, and often bear evidence of their 200 years of life, and this one is no different. The foot suffers 2 small chips which we have photographed, and the outside and underside have foxing as shown in the photographs. Otherwise the serving bowl is in fine condition.
Different sources give slightly different dates for the introduction of Spode's New Stone china, but this item can safely be dated to c. 1825-30. The underside is impressed with the New Stone mark and painted 3890 for the pattern.
