A nicely stitched sampler by Mary Thomas, no date, with the inscription Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness for they shall be filled. The edge is embroidered with leaves and flowers, with a floral garland under the verse. The prominent budding vase is in the center with fruit baskets and boats on either side. The boats are very interesting perhaps an indication that Mary travelled, lived near the ocean, or had sailor relatives. We date this sampler to the 3d quarter of the 19th C. based upon expert advice, but we believe that it could be 2d quarter due to the ships.
Condition is a problem with discoloration around the edges, especially at the bottom, most of which we believe is treatable.
