Majolica Desk Organizer OR Cigarette Holder
We have not entirely identified this antique majolica item, but it is either a desk organizer or cigarette holder. Clearly there are 3 receptacles for holding items such as pens, toothpicks, matches, cigarettes or other items not easily store otherwise. Whatever its original use, it is completely divine in its construction with separately molded containers such as the woven basket, the applied handle, and the applied anchor. The 3 dimensional modeling and construction throughout are first class, and typical of items produced during the High Majolica Period in the 2d and 3d quarters of the 19th C.
