A creamware condiment dish of shaped oval form the outside decorated with 4 spaced swags, the interior divided into 3 divisions of 50-25-25. The lid has corresponding swags and a floral, leafed finial, the interior having notches to accommodate petite ladles. These old creamware pieces are uncommon and a treat to find. We will not gloss over the fact that this dish has condition issues. Starting with the lid we note that the there are a few shallow nicks, some of which are simply glaze losses. The top has some yellowed residue. The main body itself has not fared so well as its most notable damage is on the base with a 1/2" gouge. The other damage is random glaze losses here and there. Please see the pictures, and closeups, for a better understanding of the damage. The underside is unmarked. We date dish to c. 1780 - 1800. The condiment dish is 4 5/8" wide.
