Pearlware Pitcher
A pearlware pitcher of barrel shape is held with an applied strap handle and poured through a molded beaker spout. The white ground supports flowers and bouquets in bright colors. The top rim is decorated with diamond hatch design with small spheres painted in purple.
The condition is very good plus, with only a couple of very small and shallow nicks on the underside of the foot. There is a superficial Y crack on the underside. Please note that there is some enamel loss, but much less than one might imagine for a 240 year old object.
We date this pitcher to c. 1780 or so, but its maker is unknown.
Height is 5 1/2".
This charming naively painted pitcher is a delightful reminder of the beauty of the work of pioneers in English ceramics and porcelains.
