Guest Book
This gem of a volume contains the second hand account of the famous Boston Tea-Party, and a publication of the Constitution of the United States.

This book is rare in any form, but this copy is especially rare because of its smaller portrait of the hero, George Hewes. After the book became popular, a larger more flattering portrait was included in the frontispiece.

Authorship is normally attributed to James Hawkes although its author is not explicitly stated. This retelling was done by one of the last survivors of the Boston Tea-Party, published in 1834.

James Hawkes (attributed) A Retrospect of the Boston Tea-Party with a Memoir of George R. T. Hewes S. S. Bliss New-York 1834 209pp+ Good/Good Cloth bound. Binding intact with roll. Title on spine is worn - almost illegible. Cover is stained and faded. Interior has extensive and at times heavy foxing. The front inside page is inscribed "A token of gratitude for a friend August 20, 1837." A rear blank page has writing of a name. A blank page is torn in the upper right. The end page has a square torn from it - about 2" x 2" or less. I am unaware of another copy of this book with this frontispiece. As a memoir of an epic event in America's fight for freedom and independence, this book has few equals.
