Antique Staffordshire Spongeware Sugar with Hand Painted Motif
This grand Staffordshire sugar has extra embellishments not often found on this type of ceramic. Two reserves are painted with leaves and berries which gives the container extra sparkle so to speak.
The paneled body has 2 scrolling applied handles. The domed conical lid supports an accord style knopf. The underside has a molded recess with indecipherable mark.
Condition is very good, demoted from excellent by the discolored rim of the lid.
Dimensions: 8" h, 6" w. Measurements are approximate
I date this fine sugar to 2d quarter of the 19th C.
