Antique Bronze Bust of a Young Lady After Henri Godet
This fine bronze of a young lady is an Art Nouveau gem by celebrated French sculptor Henri Godet (1863-1937) who exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Francais between 1886 - 1913.
The young girl is modeled in fine fashion of the day, gazing to her left. Her hair and the flowers on her dress complement each other. Godet is well known for different treatments of women, often enveloped in flowers. The beautiful sculpture rests atop a rouge griotte waisted marble socle.
A comparable example of this hard to find bronze was sold by Christies in 2013. The back is cast with "Hri Godet, Med[aill]e d'Or Salons 1893" and is thusly dated to late 19th C.
A particularly enjoyable view would be on a desk - especially for those who are desk bound and want a pleasant distraction.
Condition
The bronze is in near excellent condition, the only caveat being discoloration due to a sticker on the back which has marred the patina. There are nicks in the socle but I believe them to be natural defects in the marble. In any event they are quite minor.
Dimensions: 4.5" w, 3" d, 8.75" h
