A nicely decorated and shaped platter with 12 sides (the form known in France as a douze pans). This type of platter with a bust and scrolling decoration is typical of Moustiers, though the attribution to the Clerissy factory as stated on the stuck-on label on the back is less certain. The dimensions are 13 5/8 inches (35 cm) long, 10 inches (25 cm) wide and 1 ¼ inches 2.5 cm) tall.

Condition: No chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs. There is some wear and chipping of the glaze along the ed...

The porcelain plate is marked in underglaze blue with the crossed torches of Locre which was known to have exported undecorated porcelain to England. Once in England, very often London, it was decorated with overglaze enamels and gilding. The Locre factory closed in 1820. The decoration is reminiscent of 18th century Worcester. Though it may have been part of a set of plates it may also have been painted to replace a broken plate in an 18th century set. 8 1/8 inches (20.5 cm) diameter.

Condition: no chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs. Looks almost new with very little wear.

A creamware plate with a pierced border of alternating piercing patterns and gilt sections. A gilt bird stands in the well of the plate. The decoration is out of character for English style of the period so I would guess that the plate is Continental and from around 1800. It is 7 ½ inches (19 cm) diameter. No marks on the back.

Condition: no chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs. Some scratches and wear to the gilding.

An etching with extensive watercolor depicting two arches of an old bridge with a house built on the pier between the arches, two men in red coats and a dog on the bank below the bridge and lane with trees and houses on the right. Titled along the lower margin to the left, “Part of the Old Bridge east Shrewsbury.” It is unsigned, but part of the old mount that is saved in a folder on the back of the present mount states that it is by Paul Sandby (British 1725-1809). The evidence that it is b...

A drawing with ink, pencil, watercolor and gouache on laid paper depicting a harbor scene very much in the manner of the French artist Claude Vernet (1714-1789). Perhaps there is a print source for this drawing. The work is signed in the lower right, “Tho. Ryves. 1770.” The most likely artist is either the father Thomas Ryves (1721-1788) or his son Thomas (born 1753) from the distinguished Dorset, England family. The drawing is 10 5/8 x 16 inches (27 x 40.5 cm).

A group of three engravings probably by Johannas and Raphael Sadeler of Christian anchorites or hermits. The prints are after Maartin De Vos. These images were widely circulated in the early 17th century and printed and re-engraved by engravers other than the Sadelers. Interestingly of the three in this group two have no title, though they are trimmed right to the image and perhaps the title was removed. All three are laid down on early laid paper card, with the colorful surrounds painted adjace...

The decoration is in underglaze blue starting with a thin line around the outer edge, a double ring about a quarter of the way toward the center with grasses growing inward toward a large expressive carp.
