A molded Chinese porcelain bowl decorated with a dark powder blue ground, extensive gilding and on each side within the molded recessed panels an elaborate bouquet of flowers. The inspiration for the flowers is Meissen or some other German porcelain manufacturer, but the gilding, the dark blue ground and the porcelain make it definitely Chinese from before 1800. The underside marked with an accession number. It is removable...

A large black lacquer box with gilt, silver, copper (?) applied colors and Mother-of-Pearl inlay on the top and lacquered interior. Some floral decoration to the sides. The box is 5 3/8 inches (13.5 cm) tall, 8 ½ inches (21.5 cm) wide and 11 inches (28 cm) deep.

Condition: the two short sides of the top have partially separated and broken the lacquer surface. Minor spots and wear.

A good sized Jubako box, with an extra lid, decorated in gold with flowering bamboo. The lacquer is applied over wood, the interior is red and the compartments have gilt top edges. There are four compartments and two covers. Each compartment is 3 inches (7.5 cm) tall. The overall height is 11 7/8 inches (30.5 cm). It is 9 5/8 inches (24.5 cm) wide and 9 inches (23 cm deep). Probably late 19th century.

Condition: Some minor wear, some spots on the lacquer and wear to the gilding on the rims...

A well molded figure of a geisha holding a drum on her right shoulder with her left hand. Her open right hand is ready to rise and beat the drum. Her black kimono with red edges is decorated with bamboo fronds and a fruit or flower, both with gilt highlights. Her red obi is painted with colorful clouds. Her hair is elaborately piled on top of her head. 9 ¾ inches (25 cm tall).

Condition: No chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs...

Kyoto Satsuma figure of an elaborately dressed elderly man seated on a rush mat with two small cases beside him. The man is nearly bald, missing front teeth and shows whisker stubble on his chin. On the other hand his vest is elaborately decorated with gilt flowers, and his pantaloons and leggings are stripped with gilding. Late 19th century. 5 inches (12.5 cm) tall, 5 ½ inches (14 cm) long and 4 inches (10 cm) wide.

Condition: excellent except right foot re-stuck at the ankle...

The thin shaped porcelain dish with a fluted rim that extends to a lobed edge is well decorated in underglaze blue with four large panels of flowers separated by four small panels of flowers surrounding the center decorated with a flowering plant and a flying insect. On the back are two flowers with trailing leaves and in the center the four character Kangxi mark enclosed in a double circle, all in underglaze blue. Diameter 5 3/8 inches (13.5 cm) and height 1 inch (2.5 cm)...

A Chinese export blue & white plate mid-18th c. A nicely painted underglaze blue Chinese export porcelain plate from the mid-18th century decorated with flowering plants and bamboo in the center and three similar sprays of flowers around the edge. Diameter 9 inches (22.5 cm).

Condition; no cracks, hairlines or repairs. There is some fritting of the edge and a darkened scratch at the rim that looks like a hairline but isn’t. There is a small chip on the foot...

A hand painted underglaze cobalt blue porcelain saucer dish, Chinese probably the first half of the 18th century. The center of the dish painted with plants growing out of stylized rocks inside a double line with plants in alternating larger and smaller arches which follow the molding contours of the porcelain body. The rim decorated with a flower and leaves also conforming to the molded body and the outer edge shaped with low points. The back side decorated in a similar manner to the sides...

A Chinese hand painted blue and white porcelain deep dish with a wide rim and a brown outside edge. The underglaze blue decoration on the inside is flowers and a table with a vase of flowers. On the outside are a couple of loosely painted floral designs. Height 1 ½ inches (4 cm) and 6 3/8 inches (16 cm) diameter.

A Chinese porcelain early 18th century large handleless cup with hand painted underglaze cobalt blue decoration...

A nicely hand painted in undergaze blue saucer dish centered on a crab with four different fish swimming around it through bubbles bordered by plants under arches and more plants and flowers around the outer ruffled rim. The underside has more blue flowers and plants with double circles and a symbol inside the foot rim. The arches of the top of the plate are echoed in the inscribed arches on the back. A Chinese export deep well plate decorated with blossoms and flowering sprigs in underglaze blue against white porcelain. Blue bands around the center, the top edge of the well and the rim. The outside rim is brown. The underside has no marks, a dry foot and a couple of loosely painted sprigs. 9 inch (22.5 cm) diameter.

Condition: No chips cracks, hairlines or repairs. Hardly used. Some minor firing flaws.

A shallow bowl with a molded the white flower (magnolia ?), an everted rim and a high foot. The fine porcelain, the comb decorated foot, cloud border on the rim and the stylized flowers on the outer side of the bowl are typical of Hirado porcelain made in the style of the earlier Nabeshima kilns. All of the decoration, including the characters on the bottom, is underglaze blue. 8 ½ inches (21.5 cm) diameter and 2 inches (5 cm) tall.

A Chinese thinly potted porcelain saucer dish with underglaze cobalt decoration. The central decoration of plants and grasses rising from rocks is surrounded by a two part border of different leaves of water plants. The flared upper rim is molded and the outer edge lobed. On the back in underglaze blue are two trailing plants. 1 inch (2.5 cm) tall and 5 inches (12.5 cm) diameter.

Condition: No repairs, cracks or hairlines. There are three very small chips on the rim, none of the three extend...

Iron tsuba with gold and copper highlights with a boy with a fan standing below a figure with his arms tucked into the sleeves of his kimono while a child peers around his legs. On the other side are a few branches and an engraved mountain. It is 2 ¾ inches by 2 9/16 inches (7 x 6.5 cm)

Condition; some surface rust and wear to the highlights.

Interesting and humorous, perhaps the tsuba of a shy child now a samurai.

Two closely related soft metal (bronze or brass) tsuba from Edo period (1603-1867). These are from the 19th century. Each is approx. 2 5/8 inches long and 2 3/8 inches wide (6.5 X 6 cm). Both depict an eagle hunting two small birds in tufts of grass on one side. On the other side the eagle is poised over an empty landscape. Both with gilt highlights.

Condition: good condition with minor scratches, uneven oxidation, and wear. The gilding is worn in places, but overall good condition.
