A lobed dinner plate 9 ½ inches (24 cm) diameter decorated with a sprig of cornflowers (?) in the center of the well surrounded with numerous single red or gilt flowers. The lip is decorated with richly gilt and enamel swags surrounding floral cartouches. The rubbed overglaze “VV” on the back is the mark for the Verneuilh factory. It dates from the 1780’s; possibly 1787 when Vanier entered a contract with the Verneuilhs.

A nicely decorated lobed dinner plate with an off center bouquet of bright flowers in the well of the plate, two sprays of flowers on the lip and a reddish-purple rim. A little green bud near the rim covers a firing flaw. Diameter 9 7/8 inches (25 cm). Underglaze blue mark of crowned interlaced Cs.

Condition; very good and little wear. A short hairline crack from the rim goes about an inch into the plate.

Bright colors and interesting that no gilding was used.

A Pair of lobed dinner plates 9 3/8 inches (23.8 cm) diameter with a dentil gilt edge and overall sprig decoration. The cornflower sprigs are primarily blue and green with a touch of red. Both plates have the crossed torches in underglaze blue. The factory, Locre, Russinger, Pouyat is called Locre or sometime La Courtille. It was active from 1773-1824.

Condition: No chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs. Some stacking wear at the edge of the wells.

A pair of very well painted and gilt porcelain compotes. Both with marks that are loosely painted in undergaze blue that more or less resemble the crossed torches that are the registered mark for the Locre factory, also known as La Courtille. The factory was in existence from 1771 until 1840. The high quality of the painting is especially evident in the bouquets in the center of the compotes. An oval fluted French faience dish with an oval well in the center decorated with polychrome flowers and insects and a purple rim. Painted on the back inside the foot, “No: 4.” The mark and the decoration are typical of Strasburg circa 1740. The well in the center indicates that the dish was probably the undertray for a small tureen. It is 9 x 7 x 1/3/4 inches (23 18 x 4.5 cm)

Condition: Generally good with little wear. Small chips on the rim at the four extreme points.

A faience dinner with a shaped edge decorated with flowers, insects and a manganese rim. Painted on the back, “No: 4.” The mark and the decoration are typical of Strasburg circa 1740. The plate has no foot and pontil marks from firing. It is 9 ½ inches (24 cm) diameter.

Condition; Generally good with light wear. Small chips on the rim.

An albumen photograph circa 1880 of a man feeding a group of dogs gathered at his feet. In the lower left printed in the negative, Abdullah Freres. 515” and in the lower right, “Les Chiens des rues.” The image is 7 7/8 inches (20 cm) by 10 1/8 inches (25.7 cm). It is presently corner mounted in a large mat 17 inches (43 cm) by 14 inches (35.5 cm). The tones are rich and the contrast good.

According to the Brooklyn Museum, which owns one of his watercolors, his dates are 1880-1940. He was a New England artist (Falk lists him with a Worcester MA address) with some of his paintings both signed and located. This large watercolor is attached to a stiff cardboard. The sight size is 12 ¾ by 22 ½. It is signed and dated in the lower left, “George J. A pair of very detailed molded porcelain figures of standing pigeons. The glaze is slightly blue/green. On close examination it is clear that though they were made from the same mold, the details of the lines in the feathers, breasts and the bases were done by hand. A slight tint of orange shows through thin spots in the glaze on the bases. They are an identical pair rather than an opposing pair. Height 6 7/8 Inches (17.5 cm), length 6 5/8 inches (17 cm), width 3 inches (7.5 cm).

A three-color overshot coverlet with a pattern of snowballs and stripes on the dark ground side. The border on three sides is wavy lines and the fringe is a continuation of the white warp threads on the bottom and the red and blue weft threads on the sides. The warp is cotton and the weft is wool. The seam down the middle indicates that it was done on a narrow loom, though the sophisticated design and the three colors suggest that it was woven by a professional.
