Print of an elaborately dressed samurai with a clenched fist and the other hand grasping the hilt of his sword by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839-1892). The figure is an actor. I can’t make out the censors seal, but it is likely from the 3rd quarter of the 19th century. The paper is good quality woven paper. The printing is slightly textured in the white around his neck and the cuffs, but not the white sleeves. The black is printed in two tones so that there is a black on black pattern (like textured silk) to his robe. The overall dimensions of the print are 14 inches (35 1/2cm) by 9 ¾ inches (24 ½ cm). This measurement includes a very narrow margin on the left and upper edges. There is no margin on the other two sides.
Condition: No tears or repairs, the surface is slightly soiled in places. It is mounted in a paper mat with the upper and lower right hand corners glued to the backing piece of paper.
