A porcelain (hard paste) baluster form coffee pot decorated with a small bouquet of flowers and a few sprigs on one side and a few sprigs on the other with reddish purple ribbon with flowers around the top of the pot and the outside of the lid. Also on the pot a double band with entwined roses. The lid with a vented knop, which is a feature of silver form New Hall teapots. No marks. 10 ¼ inches tall (26 cm) and 8 ¼ inches (21 cm) across the handle and spout. The form is fairly common for late 18th century British porcelain, creamware and pearlware. I’ve seen pictures of a pearlware coffee pot with a vented knop but it seems unusual in porcelain. The colors are typical of early New Hall and there aren’t many others making hard paste porcelain in Britain at the time. The warping in the firing is noticeable, there are splits along the mold line and the warping of the opening is enough that the lid fits a certain way. This form may have been used for a limited time at New Hall.

Condition: Lots of firing issues as noted above and some firing discoloration around the lip of the spout and a glazed over chip on the inside of the lid.

Nice coffee pot no matter who made it.
