SOLD ! Thanks to China !
A very decorative Han Dynasty gilt bronze mat weight with 3 mythical animals ( chimera ). H : 5,6 cm. Diameter : 6,9 cm. Provenance : From an old, east German collection. Concerning the authenticity of this bronze : During the time of the Chinese Han Dynasty, here in Austria lived the Celts - an Iron Age ethnic group. Especially here around the city of Hallein, where our Gallery is located, a lot of Celtic bronze artefacts continuously are excavated, and therfore here in Hallein we do have the well known state " Keltenmuseum" ( www.keltenmuseum.com ). Since I am not really familiar with Chinese Bronzes, because my main field of knowledge is Chinese Ceramics, I consulted the head of the restoration laboratory of the Keltenmuseum, which is highly experienced in restoring Celtic bronze artefacts. The state Keltenmuseum does not issue written confirmations of authenticity, but after the head of the restoration laboratory closely had examined the piece with a special microscope, he did confirm me, that since in the patina of the piece he could identify Cuprite and a lot of very nice, naturally grown Malachite cristals, he personally is very confident, that the piece most proberbly is an old and genuine bronze artefact.
