Late Qing Dynasty (1880s to 1911) small Chinese scholar’s horn seal of square section with very elegantly and crisply carved characters on the base and traces of red seal paste in the grooves. The top is incised with a Chinese character meaning TOP, and one side is inlaid with a metal stud to assist with the orientation of the impression. The impression of the seal is shown on Enlargement 1. Beautiful dark dense horn, mellow patina, overall in very good condition. Very nice object for scholar’s table. Height 1 1/8 inches, base 3/8 inches square.
