Rather unusual 19th century (late Qing Dynasty) Chinese scholar’s rock made out of a piece of amber in a shape of a soaring rock. Does not photograph well - photos came out very harsh. The piece is very large for amber as material and shows the original surface of the amber nugget, which conveys a very good feeling of a weathered surface of a mountain. There is fantastic internal energy in the piece produced by combination of dramatic shape, texture and color of the material. Old rosewood beautifully carved fitted stand. Excellent object for scholar’s table - one of the best scholar’s objects that I’ve had. Height with stand 6 7/8 inches.
