Rare late Qing Dynasty (late 19th century to 1911) Chinese scholar’s rock in a form of a natural boulder suggesting mountain of dramatic shape covered with dense vegetation. The stone is many-sided, providing different complete views. The material is true nephrite jade in its rare botryoidal form. Botryoidal minerals form when many nearby nuclei are present: layers of mineral material are deposited radially around the nuclei and as more material is deposited, the spheres grow larger, eventually overlap and fuse together to form the botryoidal cluster. Beautiful green jade with extraordinary rich textured surface, excellent carved fitted hardwood stand. Wonderful object for contemplation on scholar’s table, beautiful patina on the surface of the stone and stand. One of the nicest scholar’s objects that I have had. Height with stand 3 inches, length of stand 4 1/4 inches.
