18th century Indian bronze votive sculpture of standing male and female deities with prabhavali behind them. Most probably it is Bhairava accompanied by Parvati. Govinda Bhairava is a syncretic form of Vishnu and Shiva. Three hands are holding Vishnu’s attributes (chakra, shankha and gada) and the lower hand is holding what looks like a begging bowl, which is the attribute of Shiva, Parvati also holds a begging bowl. Wonderful bronze with good casting and detailing, nice patina, traces of sandalwood paste used during worship, very pleasant feel of age. Height 3 1/2 inches.
