Early 19th century staghorn netsuke of a reclining deer with its head turned back as it licks its coat, hooves bent beneath its body. Perfectly captured moment, bold early carving with wonderful sense of volume, excellent face with large horn inlaid eyes, large and deep himotoshi, beautiful patina. Wonderful early sculpture. Length 2 1/8 inches.
