19c netsuke DARUMA with fly whisk by GYOKUSAI
Listed Price $850.00
19th century netsuke of Zen Buddhism patriarch Daruma slumping in a sack-like shape and holding a hossu (fly whisk). Excellent carving, wonderful facial expression, great rendition of the patched robe with various textile patterns. Beautiful staining and patina, line visible by the bottom is not a crack as such, but a natural feature of the material, the netsuke was carved with this line present. Signed GYOKUSAI in an oval reserve on the side - this excellent artist is listed on p. 427 of NETSUKE & INRO ARTISTS AND HOW TO READ THEIR SIGNATURES by George Lazarnick. Height 1 7/8 inches.
