19c Indian bronze SHRUTAKIRTI wife of Shatrughna
Listed Price $90.00
Late 19th century Indian bronze votive sculpture representing a woman with a fly whisk in her raised hand. I believe the image to be Shrutakirti - the wife of Shatrughna. Shatrughna was half-brother of Rama (they shared Dasharatha as father), and thus also inherited Vishnu’s divinity, he is usually depicted with his characteristic attributes - fly whisks - in both hands. Nice casting, she stands with her body in slight S-shaped abhanga flexion at the waist. Good depiction of jewelry, nice patina, red paste on the bottom, overall in good condition. Height 3 5/8 inches.
