Late Meiji (1900s - 1910s) Japanese scroll painted with ink and slight color on silk depicting a scholar with his books on a low table in front of him as he quietly rows in a boat under an overhanging rock with trees, misty hills in the background. Wonderful painting in scholarly taste, beautiful subtle use of ink washes, perfectly captured mood of the scene. Signed BOKEI followed by two red seals of the artist, paper mounts, rosewood scroll ends, in great condition. Painting size 40 x 16 inches, scroll size 71 x 21 inches.
