19th century kagamibuta (mirror lid) netsuke with Shibayama inlay depicting 5 utensils for tea ceremony: chasen (tea whisk), chaire (tea caddy), chashaku (tea spoon measure), kogo (incense box) and chawan (tea bowl, the summer one here). Clever design, beautiful inlay work. The bowl is dark rosewood, the top is fruitwood, materials used for inlay are 2 types of mother of pearl, bone and cinnabar lacquer. The inlay is in perfect shape, no losses or repairs. Plain back, old silk cord, two parts fit nicely, beautiful mellow patina. Top diameter 1 1/4 inches, bowl diameter 1 5/8 inches.
