Original silkscreen print “CANADIAN PORCUPINE” by Hideo Takeda (born 1948) from the Altamera series - one of a set of 10 prints each depicting an animal skeleton. The artist printed 2 different editions of this print in 1994, this belongs to the more rare edition of 80 copies done in yellow/gold (versus the white edition of 120 copies), signed by the artist in gold crayon and numbered 47 from the edition of 80. The series name refers to the Cave of Altamira in Cantabria, Spain known for its Upper Paleolithic paintings of wild animals. Takeda subtitled the series as "Moving Sculpture" featuring large animal skeletons in lively movement in often humorous setting, in this print with bright red quills and a feather protruding from the inside of his ribcage. Beautiful dramatic composition, excellent crisp print. Both print and paper are perfectly rectangular, all the irregularities to the borders are from positioning during photography. Never had been mounted, both sides are in perfect condition. Image size 15.5×23.5 inches (40×60cm), paper size 20.5×28.5 inches (52×72cm).
