Good size late 19th century Chinese glass seal made in a shape of 3/4 sphere with flat top and faceted sides, the facets producing multiple reflections of the characters of the bottom within the volume of the seal. The impression of the seal is shown on the first photo (image is flipped left to right to present the image as it will actually print on paper). The bottom is crisply carved with four raised characters that can be translated as MADE FOR THE LUMINOUS REMOTE HALL, traces of red seal paste in the grooves. Superbly beautiful piece for a scholar’s desk, pleasantly heavy. Diameter 2 5/16 inches, height 1 5/8 inches.
