This cast glass sculpture by Studio Glass artist Don Gonzalez, was created by pouring hot glass into a mold of sand. The color is melted into the glass while it is still molten at 2300F. After cooling, the piece is extensively cut and polished. Titled NAIADES SPRING, this contemporary Art Glass sculpture references the Naiades, the ancient Greek spirits of the spring, waterfall and other bodies of fresh water. Don Gonzalez has been blowing glass since the early 1970s, starting in the Fine Arts Dept at Carnegie Mellon, continuing at the Sausalito Art Center, then maintaining his own studio in NJ for over 40 years. His work is carried in numerous museums across the country as well as many private collections. He has been awarded four Fellowship Awards by the NJ State Council on the Arts and a Fellowship from the Creative Class Center of America. He served on the Board of the NJ State Council on the Arts, and taught at Bucks County College for 17 years. See his website for his complete line of work:
