A small, low, Chinese table that was used on the Kang for eating, reading, writing, etc. The table has been decorated on all sides and on the legs with fax bamboo carvings. The table is made of hongmu, a tropical hard wood, that was very popular in the 19th Century. The table measures about 29 1/2" long x 10 3/4" tall x 16" wide, and dates to the Quangxu Period (1875-1908). The table was made in Canton, and there is a very old, deteriorated paper label, on the underside, that gives you some information about the maker(see picture). The condition is very good, and it is still as found. To bring back the finish, the table can be washed, rubbed down with extra fine steel wool, and waxed. Hongmu is a very oily wood, so commercial finish products, other than wax, will not adhere to it. The asking price includes shipping within the USA.
