A pair of magnificent Tang dynasty (618-907AD) Chinese painted pottery models of bactrian camels with foreign riders that are possibly Sogdian grooms, they are dressed in the characteristic full length Central Asian jackets, with wide lapels and long boots, bearded faces with large eyes and bushy brows, a large beaked nose and a thick curling moustaches, astride a large detachable saddle bags, the camels are superbly modeled as if striding, with beautifully sculpted heads and braying mouths, wide open to reveal realistically rendered teeth, palate and tongues, with wide eyes and flaring nostrils, the upturned neck with bushy mane, the strong slender legs with well delineated tendons and padded feet, the dark grey earthenware body with traces of remaining white slip. The traders along the Silk Road route, used camels as a means of transportation, as they were able to carry heavy loads and survive the rigors of thirst, heat and cold. Thermoluminescence Test Certificate: No. 1336UA68 & No. 5581UA53 are consistent with the dating of this pair. Size: 34” high x 29” wide (86.4 73.7 cm)

Pair of Chinese Tang Dynasty (618-906 AD) gray painted pottery prancing horses, they are finely modeled with well defined heads and pricked ears, open mouths with exposed tongues, graceful bodies with turned-up tails, and attached elaborate saddles. They are 32” high x 28” wide. Each horse has an Oxford Thermoluminescence Analysis Report (C108z14 – C108z13), with four samples taken from each horse, stating the samples yielded a similar result and was consistent with the suggested period of manufacture.

This magnificent Ming dynasty painting table is exceptional with its fine nanyangshi green marble inset top is from the 17th century. The wood is a hardwood, and the nanyangshi marble is rare and was used during the Ming Dynasty. The apron has carved cloud spandrels with a raised edge on either end and in the middle section, and a stretcher, the side has stretchers bracketing the legs. The wood around the marble insert has pit marks and some gouges indicating the use of the table, from the mid-section to the right side there are many vertical cut marks. The bottom of the four feet show traces from water that was on the floor as indicated in the photo. There was some wood that was replaced, the apron and spandrels and a vertical side panel on the table top. in either the 18th or 19th century. Size: 32 ½” high x 81” wide x 28 ½”.

The Bactrian camel is in an unusual kneeling position, with its right front leg kneeling and the left leg reclining backwards, with its hind legs standing, saddle bags attached, finely molded with well detailed facial and fur features that are enhanced with rust color pigment.
