Guest Book
An eight day spring driven Connecticut shelf clock made by the E.N. Welch Mfr. Co. of Forestville, Conn., circa 1865. The rosewood veneer case measures 18-1/2"H. X 10-1/4" W. X 4" D. and is original and unrestored. The works have been professionally serviced and the clock comes with a guarantee. The glass in the door is original and the reverse painted tablet which is also original shows some paint loss. The face and hands are an appropriate replacement. The original interior paper label is intact. Elisha N. Welch (1809-1887) became one of the largest and most successful of America's clockmakers. A "Beehive" clock is a Connecticut shelf clock with a case in the shape of a rounded gothic arch, first made in the 1840's. Most of the important clock manufacturers made them. The majority of Connecticut shelf clocks were 30 hour movements. The eight day movement was more expensive, but had the advantage of needing winding just once a week. The gong is a rich deep sound that strikes on the hour. The strike can be "turned off" by simply not winding the strike spring. Now as then, eight day models are much rarer and more expensive. We accept time payments and quantity discounts. ** WE GUARANTEE THE AUTHENTICITY OF OUR MERCHANDISE AS REPRESENTED.
