Ansonia Clock Co., Ansonia Connecticut, circa 1860, eight day spring driven time and strike, with alarm, mantle clock that strikes on the hour, has been professionally serviced and is guaranteed in writing with a complete description of the work performed by the clock restorer, original face, glass and what appears to be the original reverse painted (bleeding heart-flowers) tablet. The case in rosewood veneer on pine with an old, possibly original finish that is in good condition, 19-3/4" H. X 11" W. X 4-1/2" D. The Ansonia Clock Company was founded by Anson G. Phelps in 1851 as a subsidiary of the Ansonia Brass Company, became a separate company in 1859 and moved the manufacturing plant to Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1878 where they continued to make mostly spring driven clocks into the 20th C. Elias Ingraham, another well known clock manufacturer, of Bristol, Connecticut is credited with the steeple clock design, the earliest of these clocks were made in the 1840's.
