A fine antique Japanese metal/pewter/alloy mirror with raised plant designs. Rattan handle. Mirror fits in black and gold lacquer box decorated with flowers and scrolls. Another piece fits into the box at the handle to hold in place. Please inquire if more photos desired. Mirror signed with Japanese characters. Box dates to the first quarter of the 20th century, but the mirror may be a bit earlier. Dimensions of box 12" long x 8" wide x 1" high. Mirror a bit smaller and thinner to fit in box. Very good to excellent condition. The mirror has some surface ware on the plain side for looking. The lacquer box cover has a small dent in the center, hardly noticeable. The interior of the cover has a slight crack, but does not go through to the exterior of the cover. The rim of the base that goes under the cover has some slight wear/flaking of the gold on the rim for about an inch. None of this is objectionable or noticeable and does not detract from the beauty of this hand crafted set. Very good to excellent condition considering age, and that it has traveled half way around the world! Please see other listing for matching wash bowl that came with this set. Postage/insurance extra. NY state buyer pays sales tax unless NY state resale form provided with signature and valid tax number.
