Featuring a dramatic and wonderful Japanese studio Hirado porcelain plate with a mythological 4 footed beast with a dragon face, possibly an unusual form of a kirin, and a long coiled dragon, both facing each other and ready to attack. Dating to the last half of the 19th century. Measures 9 3/4" in diameter. Very good condition with no chips, cracks, restorations. There is some surface wear with light scratches. The pit in the center is in the firing, often seen on Hirado ware. Nevertheless, will still display well.
