For centuries, the Chinese practiced ancestor worship as a religious ritual. Ancestor (also known as) or Spirit tablets were a ritual object commonly seen in temples and shrines and on household altars. Usually made of one or 2 pieces of wood. The tablets are inscribed with the title and name of the deceased, dates of birth and death, and additional information such as place of burial and the name of the son who erects the tablet. This pair of antique ancestor tablets were brought to the US by a missionary who worked in China in the early 1900's. They come with a homemade stand for easy display. They are an artifact from a culture of times past in China
