SC43 SOLD This beautiful censor is superb in its craftsmanship, with an ovoid body that is decorated various scenes around the body, (that tell a story about the history of that time), that are inlaid with copper and silver, of a man seated in a throne near a man seated behind a desk and someone standing behind holding a banner, and on the reverse side is a man in a horse-drawn carriage with another man falling off a horse with his legs in the air, and a person holding a banner, above is a wide curved border around the neck inlaid with silver and copper dragons each facing character marks, with a narrow border with a silver inlaid fret design. The heavy body is supported on three large, curved legs. The lid with a superbly cast temple lion is finely detailed with his left paw on a ball and a delicate silver scrolled design, border around the top section has openwork of a scrolled design and rolled up scroll with ribbon is a symbol the Eight Precious Things”. The circular bronze base with a medallion of a reticulated chou symbol (happiness) is surrounded with the scroll and ribbon of the “Eight Precious Things, with a scrolled border and foliate feet.
