19th Century kesi-woven rank badge with a central white pheasant facing the sun as it stands atop a rock emerging from froth-capped waves along with Buddhist symbols and flowers on a black-ground with gold thread woven with the Buddhist swastika symbols (good fortune, luck and well being) muted shades of blue, coral, gray, and earth tones and white on a black ground, within a gold key-fret border 
interspersed are the Buddhist symbols. They are each framed and glazed. Condition: one is in perfect condition and the second one has some wear and a small hole at the bottom center. These were purchased at Grace Nicholson’s gallery prior to 1948 when she passed away. She was a highly renowned and respected dealer. Size: 12 in. x 12-1/4 in. (30.48 x 31.11 cm)

Grace Nicholson (1877-1948) was an American art collector and art dealer, specializing in Native American and Chinese handicrafts. The space she originally designed for her shop is now home to the USC Pacific Asia Museum in Pasadena, California
