An ancient Egyptian scarab with a hedgehog on top and next to the foot of the standing figure on the bottom side, is a neb sign that means either "all" or "lord." He appears to be holding an ankh in his hand so the intention is probably "Lord of Life" -- one of the epithets of the pharaoh. Probably 21st Dynasty, 1069-945 B.C. 5/8 inch. A Middle Kingdom steatite scarab of Sobek-Hotep. Scarab reads: "Sobek is Pleased." Scarab measures 5/8 inch. From an old NYC collection. Khaneferre Sobekhotep IV was one of the more powerful Egyptian kings of the 13th Dynasty (c. 1803 BC to c. 1649 BC), who reigned at least eight years. His brothers, Neferhotep I and Sihathor, were his predecessors on the throne, the latter having only ruled as coregent for a few months.
