An unusual double-sided Eye of Horus amulet. One side is curved and the other is flat. Late Period, 600-300 B.C. 1 1/4 inches wide. Small chip on bottom of flat eye. Otherwise, intact and pierced for suspension. From an old NYC collection, purchased in the NYC art market @ 20 years ago. Similar double-sided amulets were said to represent the right and left eyes of the Horus falcon. Another myth says that the sun and the moon were the right (sun) and left (moon) eyes of the sky god and the sun is seen as more powerful. The Eye of Horus was believed to have healing and protective power, and it was used as a protective amulet.
