This is a 9" key wind Papier Mache doll called an autoperipatetikos. These toys are found with a variety of heads, but this is the first one I have ever seen with a PAPIER MACHE HEAD and INSET GLASS EYES. She carries an 1862 patent date. She is in working condition, retains her key, and her clothing could be original. When wound, she moves her two brass boots and appears to walk. Layaway is always an option, but please contact me prior to bidding to discuss terms. Here are the details:

HEAD: It is rare to find these key wind toys with a Papier Mache head and inset glass eyes, but it is especially wonderful to find any Papier Mache doll in such marvelous condition. I see no cracks or crazing and minimal signs of wear. A blacklight reveals no repaint. Her hair is in the so-called Greiner style with a center part and short vertical curls that are pulled back to expose her ears.

BODY: She has long brown leather arms with stitched fingers. She leans a little to one side. The lower body of the toy is a covered hoop that encloses the mechanism. There is an opening in the side of the hoop to accommodate the key. She has brass boots that move back and forth and create a walking motion.

CLOTHES: She wears an antique tan silk dress with brown lace trim. The dress has holes on each side where her arms rest. There is also a slip of thin polished cotton.
