A very fine embroidered and painted silk memorial picture. Showing a young lady playing the harp besides a monument with urn in a mountainous landscape. Inscribed on glass in "verre eglomise" technique in French: "Fait Par Anna Izeli 1826" (made by Anna Izeli 1826) - maybe of Swiss origin, Iseli is a typical name in Switzerland. The subject of these pictures was a fashionable expression of romantic sorrow in Neoclassicism - Biedermeier. This type of embroidered picture, usually copied from prints, was made to demonstrate a girl's accomplishment in needlework. With original lacquered wood frame. Dimension: c. 32.4 cm x 32.1 cm x 3 cm. Condition: frame with some dents and traces of usage.
