Two Chinese miniature wood carvings depicting a shoemaker preparing the leather and a sandal weaver. Made in the Tushanwan Workshop in Xujiahui, an orphanage opened 1864 by French Jesuit priests near Shanghai. Hosting an art school, producing wood-carving, stone sculpture, silversmith, embroidery and painting. Please refer to the book (last photo) "Scènes de la vie en Chine. Les figurines de bois de T'ou Sè Wè" by Christian Henriot and Ivan Macaux in French and Chinese ISBN 9782849903735. Book not included. Please refer to the illustrations on page 100 and 102.
